Go paperless – sign up to receive a digital version of your water bill directly to your email address. Once you sign up, you will no longer receive a paper copy in the mail. All future invoices will be sent directly to your email.

Please remember:

• You are responsible to resubmit the online form if there is a change in email address.
• Failure to receive an invoice does not excuse you from payment and any applicable interest.
• If you do not receive your invoice, please check your junk mail folder and add us to your safe list.

We offer a number of payment options. Payments must be received by the due date to avoid penalty.

Please note: A $10.00 transfer fee will be applied to any payments made to incorrect accounts.

We will need your:

• property address
• legal closing date
• name(s) that will appear on the bill
• lawyer's name and telephone number
• telephone number where we can contact you

You need to contact us before you move to request a final meter reading on the closing date. This ensures that the account is transferred to the new owners and they are billed for the water they use. Your final bill will be mailed to your forwarding address and includes consumption from your last regular reading date to the final reading date.

We need will need your:

• the purchaser's name
• a forwarding address to send your final bill

Reading your water meter regularly can help detect if you have a leak. First, you will need to locate the water meter inside your home. The water meter is usually located in your basement mechanical room or crawl space. Determine the type of meter installed in your house:

• ProRead water meter
• Ecoder water meter

Once you determine the type of water meter installed in your home, take a reading at a set time of day. Take a second reading at the same time the following day. Your daily consumption is the second reading less the first reading. Tracking your water usage will help you find any spikes in water usage and help find leaks.

Your water bill is likely higher due to an increase in water usage. Your water usage may increase for many reasons:

• More people living in your household
• Running or leaking toilet
• Running or dripping tap
• Seasonal usage –washing your car or boat, filling your pool, or watering your garden
• Outdoor hose left on
• Water cooled air conditioning
• Leaky plumbing
• Water softeners
• Leaky lawn sprinkler system
• Construction work
• Change of property use

Water Conservation Tips

In Ontario, the greatest water uses in an average home are:

• Toilet (45%)
• Showers (30%)
• Laundry (20%)
• Drinking and cooking (5%)

Here are some tips and tricks to help households reduce water consumption.

REDUCE

Be aware of your water use, and consider ways to use less.

Around the House

• Turn off the tap when brushing teeth.
• Keep a jug of water in the fridge instead of running the tap to get cold water.
• Wash your fruit and vegetables in a pan instead of running water from the tap.
• Don’t use running water to thaw food. For water efficiency and food safety, defrost food in the refrigerator.
• Shorten your shower by a minute or two and save up 550L per week.

Outside Water Conservation 

• Cut grass to a higher level (5-8cm). Taller grass shades roots and holds soil moisture better than short grass.
• Avoid children’s recreational water toys that requires a constant flow of water. Consider a small kiddie pool instead.
• Water vegetable gardens in the morning or evening, near the roots, and by hand.
• Install a rain barrel (with proper mosquito screening) and use it to water your lawn and plants. 

REPAIR

Locate and repair leaks to save water, money and to prevent potentially costly property damage.

• Check for toilet leaks: Add a few drops of food colouring into the toilet tanks and wait a few minutes. If, without flushing, the colour appears in the bowl, you have a leak.
• Check for leaks in pipes and fittings: A leak of only one drop per second wastes up to 10,000L of water annually.

RETROFIT

Install water saving devices on existing fixtures. Select water efficient devices when replacing older, water guzzling fixtures and appliances.

• Low-flow shower heads can save up to 7.5L of water per minute.
• Faucet aerators can reduce water use by 25%.
• Older toilets use about 20L per flush. Consider installing a low-flow toilet, which typical use only 6L per flush.
